THE GALWAY HOOKER
Sleek fishing boat, red sails full blown
In foaming wake she cruised alone.
Upon her deck a lad did sway,
Kept looking back across the bay.
From Claddagh town his tearful bride,
Upon a dock stood tall and cried.
White hanky danced upon the wind,
As em’rald eyes upon him pinned.
To starboard bow Clare Hills rose high,
Through spray the hooker scudded by.
All sails lay taut before the blast,
Aboard a groom clung to a mast.
The Galway hooker flew away,
Across North Sound that fateful day.
From Inishmore to Rossavail,
That night o’er surf heard widows wail.
At dawn a body washed ashore,
Found by a pregnant paramour.
Today her ghost still haunts the scene,
And in the wind one hears her keen.

A Galway hooker sailed away,
And took her love across the bay.
A widow waits upon the shore.
Will she be pining evermore?
When she was 17, there wasn’t a man alive she would let get near her, and when she was 18, there wasn’t a man she would keep away.
She stood five feet seven inches tall, weighed one hundred twenty pounds, her green eyes sparkled like brilliant cut emeralds, her inviting full lips always ruby red and moist.
Women universally hated her, men continued to hold doors for her long after she passed by - just to watch her walk away. To imply that Jessie exuded sex would be an understatement, akin to inferring that water was wet.
Ninety-nine point nine percent of the men in Steam Corners wanted her, but she only wanted one man, Spencer Deacon. He was everything that she was not, even-tempered, amicable, well respected and kind. The one thing that Spencer didn’t want was Jessie, and his firm and undeniable rejections infuriated her.
What followed was a series of sordid events involving murder, deceit, betrayal and the conviction of an innocent man.

In 1966, Scott turned down a contract with the Detroit Tigers to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a published author by earning a degree at Ohio University. In 1996 with a lifelong dream of being a writer, Scott started writing short stories.
Within two years, he had four stories published. Since then, his first novel, All Those Years Ago, was published, Summer Heat, his fifth novel, was published in May 2012 and his most recent, The Mansfield Killings, based on a true story, was published in October 2012. To date, Scott has published 11 novels.
Now, Scott spends nearly all his time writing his next novel.
